Market supporting Native artisans with apparel, jewelry, drums, and prints from master artists, upholding the Indian Arts and Crafts Act.
The December Native Art Market returns to the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center on Saturday, December 20, and Sunday, December 21, from 10 AM to 5 PM both days. It's a weekend market that brings together Native artisans across a wide range of media, with work from master artists in apparel, jewelry, drums, and prints. The focus is on supporting Native artists and empowering Indigenous communities during the holiday season, so it's a good spot if you're looking for gifts that go directly back to the makers.
One thing to keep in mind is that the center upholds the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, which is the federal law that ensures the cultural integrity of every piece sold—meaning you're buying authentic Native-made work. The variety is broad enough that you can find something for almost anyone: jewelry and apparel for wearing, drums for playing, and prints for the wall. It's a mix of traditional and contemporary, with master artists representing different styles and traditions under one roof.
If you haven't spent much time there, the venue itself is part of the experience. Daybreak Star is the headquarters of the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation, completed in 1977, and it's become a hub for Native peoples and their supporters from around the city, the country, and beyond. It houses a permanent collection of Native art and the Sacred Circle Gallery, which shows rotating exhibits by contemporary Native artists alongside the Sacred Circle Gift Shop. The center also hosts the annual Seafair Indian Days Powwow and the Indigenous Peoples' Day celebrations.
