A community 5k run and walk open to all fitness levels, suitable for families and individuals of all ages.
The Daybreak Star Community 5k Run & Walk is back at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center on Sunday, October 18, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. It's a free event, and you don't need to register in advance—you just show up. The run is held on the third Sunday of every month at 10 AM, so if you miss this one, there's another one coming around soon.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of fitness level. You can run the full 5k, jog it, or just walk it. It's as much for families as it is for runners, so feel free to bring the kids along for a morning in the park. The meeting point is at the Powwow Grounds, which is part of the center's grounds.
For a bit of context, the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center is the headquarters of the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation. Completed in 1977, it's a hub for Native peoples and their supporters from across the city, the country, and beyond. It sits within the surroundings of Discovery Park and houses a permanent collection of Native art, along with the Sacred Circle Gallery, which features rotating exhibits by contemporary Native artists. The center also runs the Sacred Circle Gift Shop, with a second outlet, Yubec, over in Fremont, and hosts the annual Seafair Indian Days Powwow and Indigenous People's Day celebrations.
