Jazz concert by singer and composer Cécile McLorin Salvant at The 5th Avenue Theatre in downtown Seattle.
Cécile McLorin Salvant plays The 5th Avenue Theatre on Tuesday, February 2, 2027. She's a composer, singer, and visual artist whose work pulls from vocal jazz, avant-garde, contemporary jazz, traditional folk, and soul. Jessye Norman once described her as "a unique voice supported by an intelligence and full-fledged musicality."
Salvant has been collecting awards for over a decade. She won the Thelonious Monk competition in 2010 and has taken home the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album for three consecutive records: The Window, Dreams and Daggers, and For One To Love, following a nomination in 2014 for WomanChild. In 2020, she was named a MacArthur fellow and received the Doris Duke Artist Award. Her 2022 album Ghost Song earned two Grammy nominations.
Beyond the records, she's also a writer. She wrote Ogresse, a musical fable arranged by Darcy James Argue for a thirteen-piece orchestra, which is currently in development as an animated feature film she'll direct. That side of her work—the storytelling and the visual art—tends to run through everything she does.
