Candlelight: Featuring Vivaldi's Four Seasons & More

The Seattle String Quartet is taking over the Arctic Club Hotel for a series of Candlelight concerts this fall, with the first one on Thursday, October 15. The whole thing is built around the candlelight format: the room is lit by hundreds of candles rather than stage lights, and the music is played live by the quartet. It's a 60-minute set, and they're running it on three different dates—October 15, November 8, and November 28—with two showtimes each night, 6:15 PM and 8:30 PM.

The program is centered on Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, the set of four concertos that trace the year through Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Alongside that, they're playing his Sonata n.12 in d-minor 'La Follia' RV 63. Both are staples of the Baroque repertoire, so if you've ever wanted to hear them live without the full orchestra, this is a good way to do it.

The venue is part of the draw here. The Arctic Club Hotel is a 1916 Beaux-Arts landmark in downtown Seattle, and the concert takes place in the Northern Lights Dome Room, where a stained-glass dome frames the performance. The building is also known for the terra cotta walrus heads that adorn its exterior. It's a room that holds around 400 people, so it's not a massive hall.

On the practical side, tickets run from $36.50 to $53.50. Seats are assigned on arrival on a first-come basis within the zone you buy, so getting there early is your best bet for a good spot. The show is open to ages 8 and up, and anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. Late entry isn't permitted, so you'll want to be in your seat before the music starts.
