A holiday improv show that rewrites Dickens' classic tale each night with audience suggestions, creating a unique performance every time.
Unexpected Productions brings back An Improvised Christmas Carol starting November 27 at their space in Post Alley. It's a holiday improv show that takes Charles Dickens' classic tale and rewrites it from scratch every single night, with the audience providing the suggestions that steer the story. The run goes through December 23, so you've got plenty of dates to choose from throughout the season.
The premise is simple: the cast starts with the basic bones of A Christmas Carol, and from there, the audience takes over. Those suggestions spark more than 30 new twists per show—new characters, wild settings, and surprise endings—so no two performances are the same. You'll get everything from absurd ghosts to unexpected songs, and since it's all made up on the spot, the story goes wherever the room takes it. It's billed as Seattle's favorite holiday improv tradition, and it's a family-friendly show, so it works as a night out with kids or just a laugh with friends.
Behind the scenes, the show was created by Randy Dixon and is directed by Tony Beeman, performed by the Unexpected Productions improv cast. Free or reduced-cost access is supported by 4Culture, which keeps it accessible for more people. If you've never seen improv in the city, this is a good way to get into it—you know the general story, but you never know how it's actually going to play out.
