Roots reggae concert with Alborosie & The Shengen Clan, with Dub Lounge International and DJ Kid Hops.
Alborosie & The Shengen Clan play Nectar Lounge on Sunday, October 18, with Dub Lounge International and DJ Kid Hops opening. It's a roots reggae bill, and Alborosie is the one you're coming for.
If you're not familiar with him, Alborosie is an Italian-Jamaican singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who's been based in Kingston for years. He was born Alberto Dascola in Sicily in 1977 and started out in Italy, where he formed the band Reggae National Tickets in 1993. He eventually moved to Jamaica and spent time at Geejam Studios, the legendary spot where he sharpened his production skills. Since then, he's become one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary roots reggae.
His solo work has turned out songs like "Herbalist," "Kingston Town," "Still Blazing," and "Rastafari Anthem," and he's worked with Buju Banton, Ky-Mani Marley, Kabaka Pyramid, Protoje, Chronixx, and Jah Cure. He tours with the Shengen Clan, and his latest album, Nine Mile, keeps him tied to the roots of the genre. He's played across Europe, the Americas, and Africa, and this is one of his stops in the Northwest.
