Annual indoor plant and fundraising event featuring blooming orchids grown by local members, with ribbon judging and plant sales.
The Northwest Orchid Society is bringing its Fall Conservatory Show to the Volunteer Park Conservatory on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11. It's one of their annual indoor plant and fundraising events, run by local orchid enthusiasts and staged right in the heart of Capitol Hill.
Dozens of blooming orchids grown by society members go on display, and the show includes ribbon judging by the American Orchid Society. If you've got a plant of your own that needs a new pot, there's a re-potting table run by volunteer experts available for a small donation. Plant sales are held in the lower greenhouse, which doesn't require an admission fee, so you can browse the sales even if you aren't heading into the main show.
Beyond this weekend, the society holds free monthly meetings, usually on the second Monday of the month except July and August, with guest speakers, exhibits, raffles, and a special auction each year. If you're just getting into orchids, those meetings are a good way to keep the conversation going after the show wraps.
