A folk and Americana music night featuring Willy Tea Taylor & The Fellership and The Alex Lucero Band at Soda Bar.
Willy Tea Taylor & The Fellership play Soda Bar on Monday, October 19, with The Alex Lucero Band opening. It's a folk and Americana bill, and Taylor is the main draw here.
Taylor comes from Oakdale, California, a small town he calls home and the setting for many of his songs. He grew up surrounded by horses and rodeo culture in the self-styled Cowboy Capital of the World; his grandfather Walt was one of the most respected cattlemen of his generation. Baseball was his first love, and he played as a catcher until a knee injury ended it and turned him toward music. At 18, a Greg Brown set at the Strawberry Music Festival inspired him to become a folk singer; he made his main stage debut there in 2009 with the Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit and went solo on the main stage in 2015. He cites John Hartford, Roscoe Holcomb, Bob Dylan, KISS, Weird Al Yankovic, and Willie Nelson as his biggest influences, and has toured with Tom VandenAvond on Searchin' for Guy Clark's Kitchen.
The Alex Lucero Band hails from Santa Cruz, California, and will open the night. Between the two, you've got a full evening of California folk and Americana on the same stage.
