A ten-piece Afro-Funk and Soul-Jazz band from San Diego performs a full headlining set at Casbah, co-headlining with The Styletones.
The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble play Casbah on Saturday, November 21, co-headlining with The Styletones. It's a double bill with full headlining sets from both bands, so you're getting two complete shows in one night rather than a short opener and a long main act. The music starts at 8 PM.
For those who haven't caught them yet, The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble is a ten-piece Afro-Funk and Soul-Jazz band from right here in San Diego, signed to Colemine Records. That ten-piece isn't just a number on a flyerโit's a full horn section and a rhythm section working together. On the horns, you've got Travis Klein on tenor sax and flute, Wili Fleming on trombone, Jesse Audelo on baritone sax and flute, and Jordan Adams on trumpet. The rhythm section is built around Kiko Cornejo Jr. on congas and percussion, Omar Lopez on bass, Kyler Jakubowski on guitar, Tim Felten on organ and electric piano, Sheryll Felten on hand percussion, and Jake Najor on drums. With two flutes and a baritone sax in the mix, the horn section has a lot of range to pull from, and the percussion section is doubled up with congas and hand percussion running alongside the drums.

Because it's a co-headlining bill, both bands get their own full set. The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble brings that ten-piece sound to the stage, and The Styletones take their turn as well, so the night is split between two full performances rather than one band supporting another. It's a Saturday night show at Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd, starting at 8 PM.
