Garage rock band The Loons perform as part of The Loved Ones show at the Casbah venue in San Diego.
The Loons are playing Casbah on Sunday, January 10, 2027, as part of The Loved Ones show, with DJ GirlGroupGirl on the bill. It's a hometown date for them — they're a garage rock band formed right here in San Diego back in late 1995.
If you're not familiar with the name, they've put out five albums over the years. Their debut, Love's Dead Leaves, came out on Get Hip in 1998, and Orange County Weekly called it a masterpiece. Since then they've released Paraphernalia on UT Records, Red Dissolving Rays of Light and Inside Out Your Mind on Bomp! Records — the latter produced by their drummer, Mike Kamoo.
The sound they've built comes from a multi-national lineup that pulls from two different worlds: the kinetic drive of European freakbeat and the melodic cool of the Sunset Strip around 1966. They've cited the Pretty Things, the Yardbirds, and Love as influences, and that mid-sixties psych-rock lineage is exactly where the garage rock label points. It's the kind of thing that works best in a room like the Casbah, where the energy of a live band takes center stage.
