Concert by The Goddamn Gallows, a psychobilly and punk rock band, with support from King Sickabilly at Soda Bar.
The Goddamn Gallows play Soda Bar on Sunday, November 22, with King Sickabilly opening. It's a San Diego date on their tour, and the show starts at 8 PM.
If you're not familiar with them, the band's history is as rough as the music. They came out of the American Rust Belt, and their story began with a night of flophouse violence. From there, they spent years in Portland and Los Angeles, living in abandoned buildings, squatter camps, storage units, and shoebox apartments. In 2007, they left everything behind and spent the next four years living out of whatever vehicle could get them to the next town.
Their sound has shifted a few times along the way. They started with a twanged-out, punk rock 'gutterbilly' style on Life of Sin (2004) and Gutterbillyblues (2007). Later, they added washboard, accordion, mandolin, and banjo on Ghost of the Rails (2009) and 7 Devils (2011)—a sound that earned them labels like 'hobocore', 'gypsy-punk', and 'americana-punk'. In 2018, they reinvented themselves with The Trial, which fuses rockabilly, psychobilly, punk rock, bluegrass, and metal. The current lineup is Baby Genius on drums and screams, Jayke Orvis on mandolin, banjo, vocals, and screams, and Mikey Classic on guitar.
