Heavy metal concert featuring Soulfly headlining with supporting acts Nailbomb and Incite at Soda Bar.
Soulfly play Soda Bar on Monday, October 12, with Nailbomb and Incite opening. It's a heavy bill for a Monday night in San Diego, and the headliner brings a long history with him.
Soulfly was started in 1997 by Max Cavalera, who led Sepultura to the world stage before moving on to this project. The band has released a dozen albums since then. Early on, the music drew from world music as much as metal, and the self-titled 1998 debut was called one of the best nü-metal albums of all time by Kerrang! in 2000. Melody Maker named 2000's Primitive the metal album of the year. Rolling Stone wrote at the turn of the millennium that the band seemed built to last.
Cavalera's name is all over the metal scene beyond Soulfly. He cofounded Nailbomb—who'll be sharing the bill here—and also Cavalera Conspiracy, Go Ahead And Die, and Killer Be Killed. The band's twelfth album, 2022's Totem, was produced by Max with Arthur Rizk and features his son, Zyon Cavalera, on drums. It was also the first Soulfly record without guitarist Marc Rizzo since 2004. The band describes themselves as a thrash metal powerhouse returning from the mystical Sonoran Desert to the mosh pits of America.
