A hands-on community workshop where participants learn to repair clothing and bicycles to extend the life of their belongings and reduce waste, part of San Diego Climate Week.
The San Diego FixIt Clinic is setting up at the University of San Diego on Thursday, October 8, from 5 to 7 PM. It's a community-run session where you bring in the things you've been meaning to fix—broken zippers, torn shirts, wobbly bicycles—and learn how to repair them yourself instead of tossing them. The goal is simple: extend the life of what you already own and keep broken stuff out of the landfill.
It's a hands-on setup. You don't just watch someone else do the work; you're the one with the tools in hand. The clinic provides the workspace, the specialty tools, and guidance from Fix-It Coaches who can walk you through the process. It's as much about learning how your things were made and how they work as it is about actually getting them back in working order. Donations are welcome to keep the movement growing.
This particular session is part of the People Summit, a community-powered afternoon of local climate action, regenerative business, and hands-on solutions held during San Diego Climate Week. It's not the only thing happening that day: the clinic sits alongside a Circular Marketplace, a community clothing swap, a textiles workshop, and an Upcycled Fashion Show. The broader clinic is supported by Zero Waste San Diego, and the University of San Diego—a Roman Catholic institution chartered in 1949 that overlooks Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean—is hosting the whole thing.
