Concert by German electronic music producer and DJ Roman Flügel at 3oz Dive Club.
Roman Flügel plays 3oz Dive Club on Saturday, October 10, with the set running from 9 PM to 2 AM. He's a DJ and producer from Germany, and this is a solo night with him as the only name on the bill.
Flügel has been a part of the German electronic scene since the early 1990s, and he's one of the bigger names to come out of it. He's often described as a musical chameleon, and for good reason: his sound is notoriously hard to pin down. He tends to favor surprise over sticking to one genre, pulling from ambient and IDM, house, techno, electro, and leftfield. If you've followed him for a while, you know that a single set can move through a lot of ground without ever settling into one predictable groove.
He doesn't just work under his own name, either. He records solo as Alter Ego and has spent years collaborating with his long-time partner Jorn Elling Wuttke. He's also a co-founder of the Ongaku/Klang/Playhouse label, so he's as much a part of the infrastructure of the scene as he is one of the artists playing in it. That long history shows up in the way he puts a night together—he's got decades of electronic music to draw from, and he's not afraid to mix styles that don't usually sit in the same room.
