An immersive, improvised theater experience where the audience becomes the studio audience for a live radio play set in 1947.
Radio '47 is an immersive, improvised theater experience that runs on the second and fourth Fridays of the month at Mockingbird Improv in Liberty Station. The whole thing is built around a single premise: you're not just watching a play, you're the studio audience for a live radio broadcast coming out of the fictional station KBRD in 1947. You'll be rubbing elbows with the cast and crew, and the show is live improv disguised as a radio broadcast, complete with sound effects, sponsor commercials, and the kind of behind-the-scenes shenanigans that make it feel like you're in on the joke. Because it's improvised, almost anything can happen.
Peter Jacques produces and directs the show, and it's staged at Mockingbird Improv, a non-profit theater at Liberty Station that runs live comedy Thursday through Sunday. They also run improv classes and workshops on the side, and they describe themselves as an equity, diversity, and inclusion-focused organization. The theater is located at 2590 Truxtun Rd #200, San Diego, CA 92106.
