A welcoming evening of connection, music and dance with a free beginner salsa workshop and Latin sounds by DJ Pat, open to all ages and experience levels.
Queer Latin Dance San Diego is hosting Queer Salsa Sunsets at the Park on Sunday, October 11, from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Balboa Park Visitors Center, 1549 El Prado. It's a free afternoon of salsa, bachata, and other Latin dance styles in the park, and you don't need a partner or any previous dance experience to join in.
The session kicks off with a beginner workshop led by Michelle Fernandez, so if you've never stepped foot on a dance floor, this is a good place to start. After the workshop, DJ Pat keeps things moving with Latin sounds for the rest of the afternoon. The whole thing is open to all ages, and there are no gender roles or expectations: you can choose whether to lead or follow, and you can switch between the two whenever you like.
Queer Latin Dance San Diego is the organization behind the gathering, and they describe their work as building community and growing the queer Latin dance scene in the city. The afternoon is meant as a welcoming space to move, learn, and connect through dance.

Since it's an outdoor gathering, the organizers suggest bringing a dish to share with four to six people, along with a blanket or portable chair and your own reusable plates, cups, and utensils. If you'd rather not bring a dish, there's a suggested donation of $10. You can RSVP at queerlatindance.com/Events. The event is free, runs from 4 PM to 6 PM, and takes place at the Balboa Park Visitors Center.
