A community engineering and creativity event where participants design and launch pumpkins from the San Diego Air & Space Museum.
Pumpkin Chunkin' comes to the San Diego Air & Space Museum on Saturday, October 10. It's a day of engineering, coding, creativity, and launching pumpkins, all held at the museum's location in Balboa Park.
The core of the event is the launching itself, but the work leading up to it is where the real focus lies. It's a project that pulls together several different skills: engineering to build the machine, coding to control it, and a good deal of creativity to figure out how to get a pumpkin as far as possible. The result is a day spent watching those efforts in action.

Because it's hosted by the San Diego Air & Space Museum, the whole thing fits right in with the venue's focus on flight and physics. You'll find it at 2001 Pan American Plaza in Balboa Park, so it's an easy trip if you're already spending the day around the park's museums and gardens. The date is Saturday, October 10, 2026.
