Outdoor market with local farmers and makers offering fresh produce, meats, cheeses, bread, flowers, and artisan goods.
The Pacific Beach Tuesday Farmers Market is back on Tuesday, October 20, from 2 PM to 7 PM. It takes over two blocks in Pacific Beach: the 4400 block of Bayard Street, from Garnet Avenue to Hornblend Street, and the 800 block of Hornblend Street, from Bayard down to Mission Boulevard.
It's been around since 2011, and the people behind it describe it as an essential outdoor grocery store where you get to meet the farmers and makers behind the freshest fare from small local businesses. That's a good way to put it, because it's not just a few stalls—it's a full-on market run by a mix of certified farm vendors and non-farmer vendors. The stalls fill the blocks with fresh produce, meats, cheeses, bread, flowers, and dips and spreads, alongside gourmet dining options and handcrafted artisan works. If you're doing your weekly shopping, you can knock out the produce, the bakery, and the flowers all in one go, and then pick up something for dinner while you're at it.
There are two things worth knowing before you head over. First, the market accepts EBT, which you can convert into 'Market Bucks' at the information booth on the corner of Hornblend Street and Bayard Street. Second, they offer Market Match, which can get you up to $15 of free fruits and vegetables. If you use EBT, it's worth stopping by that booth first to get your Market Bucks and your match before you start filling your bags.
