A read-aloud session about animals and plants for young children, followed by hands-on museum exploration and a craft activity.
Nature & Me Storytime is at The San Diego Natural History Museum on Sunday, October 11, starting at 10:30 AM. It's one of the family programs the museum runs in Balboa Park, and this one is built for the youngest crowd: kids five and under, accompanied by an adult.
The session starts with a read-aloud about animals, plants, and the natural world. From there, it moves into hands-on exploration with museum specimens, and each child gets a craft to take home. It's the kind of morning that works well if you've got a little one who's already obsessed with bugs or dinosaurs and you're looking for a way to lean into that.
For context, the museum—which locals just call The Nat—is right in the heart of Balboa Park. Its whole focus is the natural history of Southern and Baja California, from the deep past up to the present, so the specimens the kids get to look at come from the region we actually live in. If you're planning to make a day of it, there are other family-oriented things on the schedule: Family Days and The Backyard, a dedicated play space for children five and under.
