Jazz vocalist Jonathan Karrant performs classic jazz standards with his band, featuring pianist Joshua White, bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Juilen Cantelm.
Jonathan Karrant plays Lou Lou's Jungle Room on Thursday, November 12, at 7 PM. He's a Los Angeles-based jazz vocalist, and for this set he's bringing a full band: pianist Joshua White, bassist Justin Grinnell, and drummer Juilen Cantelm.
Karrant has a fair bit of chart history behind him. His album On and On hit #4 on the Billboard Jazz Chart, and his live recording Live climbed to #2 on the iTunes Jazz Chart. DownBeat named him one of their Top 10 Rising Male Vocalists, and he's picked up the New York City Cabaret Jazz Honors and Best Singer at the Bravo California Awards. He's toured across the US and Europe, and along the way he's worked with Diane Schuur, Jane Monheit, Joe Alterman, and Houston Person.
As for what he'll be singing, he describes his repertoire as a blend of classic jazz standards and contemporary interpretations. That's a good way of saying you'll hear the old songs most people recognize alongside newer takes on them, and the quartet format—voice, piano, bass, and drums—is the standard setup for that kind of night.
