Jazz concert featuring John Scofield on guitar, with Oteil Burbridge, Larry Goldings and Adam Deitch at the Belly Up venue.
John Scofield plays Belly Up in Solana Beach on Tuesday, October 27, with Oteil Burbridge, Larry Goldings, and Adam Deitch. It's a quartet that pulls from a few different worlds: Scofield on guitar, Burbridge on bass, Goldings on organ, and Deitch on drums.
If you're not familiar with Scofield, he's been a presence in jazz since the late 1970s. He's a masterful improviser whose music sits between post-bop, funk-edged jazz, and R&B. He picked up the guitar at 11 and went to Berklee College of Music. His early recordings were with Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker, and he spent two years in the Billy Cobham-George Duke band. He recorded with Charles Mingus in 1977, then played in the Gary Burton quartet, and started leading his own groups in 1978. From 1982 to 1985, he toured and recorded with Miles Davis. Since then, he's put out more than 30 albums as a leader, collaborating with Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Herbie Hancock, Joe Lovano, and Phil Lesh. He tours the world roughly 200 days a year and is an Adjunct Professor of Music at New York University.
