Electronic dance music DJ and producer HOL! performs a bass-heavy set at the Nova SD venue.
HOL! is playing Nova SD on Friday, October 16, at 10 PM. He's a dance and electronic DJ and producer, and his sets are built around cover versions of hip-hop and pop tracks. If you're not familiar with how that works, it's basically what it sounds like: he takes songs you already know from the radio or your playlists and flips them into bass-heavy dancefloor versions. It's a specific way of DJing that lets you recognize the hook of a pop song while it's being played as a club track.
To give you a sense of the range he pulls from, his sets have included covers of Lil Uzi Vert's "Just Wanna Rock," Ken Carson's "gynecologist," Baauer's "Harlem Shake," and Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head." That spans from current rap and underground hip-hop to a dance-pop classic from the early 2000s, so the room will likely be hearing a wide mix of styles throughout the night.
He first caught a lot of people's attention when his track "cosmic sub" was played during Atliens' EDC Las Vegas 2020 set. Since then, he's built his name around this approach of reworking hip-hop and pop hits into bass music, which is exactly what he'll be doing here. It's a good night if you're into bass music but also like the familiarity of songs you've heard a thousand times before.
