A lunch and learn session led by Elsa Sevilla about the women who built San Diego, featuring a documentary screening.
Elsa Sevilla hosts a Historic Places Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, December 16, at the KPBS Community Engagement Center in the Conrad Prebys Media Complex at Copley Center, on the San Diego State University campus. The session runs from 11:30 AM to 2 PM and centers on the women who built San Diego, with a documentary screening as part of the program.
Sevilla focuses on four figures: Juana Machado, Vicenta Carrillo, Margaret Robinson, and Belle Benchley. The session is tied to a Historic Places episode titled Women Who Built San Diego, which premiered Monday, October 12, at 9 PM on KPBS TV and KPBS+. If you missed the broadcast, this is a chance to see the material and hear Sevilla talk through it in person.
Sevilla is an Emmy-nominated journalist, filmmaker, and the host of Historic Places with Elsa Sevilla, the series that gives the event its name. Over 18 years, the show has produced more than 80 documentaries, which have aired up to 2,000 times. She's described this Lunch & Learn series as something she's dreamed of bringing to life for three years, so this is one of the first times the show's format moves from the screen to a live room.
