A theatrical puppet show where the character Freddy brings Halloween cartoons to life, following the success of FreddyToons!
Hallowtoons! runs October 10 and 11 at the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater in Balboa Park. It's a puppet show built around Halloween cartoons and characters, with Freddy leading the way. If that sounds familiar, it's because it follows FreddyToons!, the show where Freddy first brought Halloween cartoons to life and added new friends to the mix.
It's worth knowing where you're heading. The Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater is North America's longest continually running puppet theater, and it's been open since 1947. It's also credited with helping save the California Condor. The building itself has a long history: originally called the Hollywood Building and later the Palisades Building, it was one of the structures put up for the 1935-36 California Pacific International Exposition, which celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal. Before it became a home for puppetry, it served as a recital hall and a movie theater. The Balboa Park Puppet Guild has operated it on behalf of the City of San Diego since 2001, and the venue still puts on weekly live shows featuring puppetry from around the world.
