Reggae concert featuring Eli-Mac, Cruz Roots and Lowtide at The Harp in Ocean Beach.
Eli-Mac plays The Harp on Saturday, October 24, with Cruz Roots and Lowtide opening. It's a reggae night in Ocean Beach, and the bill runs long: music starts at 7:30 PM and goes until 1:00 AM.
Eli-Mac is the stage name of Ciara-Camile Roque Velasco—Eli-Mac spelled backwards—a Filipino artist who grew up in Hawaii. She's been blending her island music roots with R&B and hip-hop from an early age, and she made a name for herself as a Top 10 finalist on Season 3 of American Idol. At 18, she recorded a version of Bob Marley's "Guava Jelly" at Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica, produced by Stephen Marley; that track won the Hawaii Music Awards' Single of the Year. Her debut release, the five-song Dubstop EP, mixed roots reggae, hip-hop, and R&B and gave us tracks like "Can't Get Enough" and "Roots Girl."
She's toured extensively and shared the stage with Gwen Stefani, Sublime, Lauryn Hill, Shaggy, Stephen Marley, Iration, SOJA, Collie Buddz, J Boog, and Common Kings. That's a long list of reggae and roots-leaning acts, and it points to where her sound sits.
