Panel discussion bringing together experts on land use, transit, clean energy and zoning as levers for the region's climate goals.
Climate Week: Housing Policy is Climate Policy comes to the San Diego Made Factory on Wednesday, October 7, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's part of San Diego Climate Week, and the whole thing is built around one central idea: where we live, how much we drive, and the energy our homes use are some of the biggest levers for the region's climate goals. It's not just about the houses themselves, but the policies that shape them.
The panel brings together experts working on land use and zoning, transit funding, clean energy, and the pollution burden that industrial zoning places on nearby neighborhoods. They'll be talking through a few specific things that affect the city right now: a new state law that requires more housing near transit stops, and rules that let builders add more homes within existing neighborhoods instead of building out on undeveloped land. They'll also cover funding for public transit, how renters can get access to solar and other clean energy, and the zoning that allows industrial sites like warehouses and factories to sit right next to homes.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in San Diego and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's a broad conversation that connects things we usually think of separately — zoning, transit, and energy — and puts them in the same frame. The session is for ages 18 and over, and it's supported by California YIMBY. It's free to attend, but seats are limited and registration is required, so you'll want to sign up ahead of time. The event runs from 6 PM to 8 PM at the San Diego Made Factory, 2031 Commercial Street, San Diego, California 92113.
