A guided walking tour celebrating the women who helped shape Balboa Park and San Diego's history, led by volunteers and staff.
The Balboa Park Women's History Tour is back at the San Diego History Center on Saturday, October 17, starting at 10:30 AM. It's a guided walking tour that celebrates the women who helped shape Balboa Park and San Diego's wider history, drawing figures from the park's past and present. The tour was developed in collaboration with the Center for Women's History at the San Diego History Center and is run together with Forever Balboa Park. It's led by volunteers and San Diego History Center staff, and it begins and ends at the Casa de Balboa building.
If you're already spending the morning in the park, this is a good way to see it from a different angle. The tour focuses on the women who left their mark on the park and the city, and because it's a walk, you'll be seeing the sites as you hear the stories rather than just reading about them in a gallery. It's a guided experience, so you'll have someone leading the way and filling in the gaps as you go.
One thing that's worth knowing is that your tour fee includes admission to the San Diego History Center. That means you can spend some time in the museum's galleries before and after the walk, where you can pick up more stories of San Diego women at no extra cost. If you're coming with a larger group, guided experiences are also available by appointment for groups of ten or more.
