A nature documentary narrated by Clare Danes telling the stories of three extraordinary animal species rescued from extinction.
Back from the Brink is playing at the San Diego Natural History Museum through November 19, 2026, in the Giant Screen Theater. It's a nature documentary that follows three animal species brought back from the edge of extinction: a tiny fox on California's Channel Islands, a fabled monkey in China's Yunnan Province, and the Christmas Island red crab. The film focuses on the coordinated work of scientists, community members, park rangers, and students who stepped in to protect them.
It's narrated by actress Clare Danes and comes from Cosmic Pictures in association with The Nature Conservancy. Kurt Frey and Jennifer Casey wrote it, Anthony and Joe Russo executive produced, and Sean Casey directed. The three animals it tracks are from very different corners of the world—the Channel Islands are right here in California, while the monkey is in China and the red crab is on Christmas Island—so the film pulls together stories from across the globe into one place.
