A certified farmers market engaging the community with arts, environmental education, and wellness activities inspired by ancient Egypt, serving the BIPOC community of San Diego.
The ASCENDKemet Collective Certified Farmers Market is back at 4325 Wightman in City Heights this Saturday, October 17, from 10 AM to 2 PM. It's an open-air market that brings together local vendors, farmers, and artisans, with a focus on the BIPOC community of San Diego.
There's a specific philosophy behind it. The market was created by and for San Diego's BIPOC community, and it's rooted in cultural pride and ecological stewardship. It champions holistic living, bartering, and access to fresh, nutritious produce, and many of the vendors identify as highly melanated and value a culture of exchange and barter. Beyond the produce, the market programs cultural activities and volunteer opportunities, and it's run by ASCENDtials, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that also offers Kemetic Yoga.
If you're shopping on a budget, the market accepts SNAP/EBT, WIC, and SFMNP. There's also a stamp card reward: spend $10 at the ASCENDtials booth to earn a stamp, and a full card gets you $5 in market credit. It's a good way to stretch your dollars while you're picking up your weekly groceries.
