Monthly sensory-friendly early access to the Fleet Science Center with a documentary film screening, with house lights up and low volume.
Accessibility Mornings are back at the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park this Saturday, October 17. It's part of a monthly series that runs on the third Saturday of every month, and this one follows the same format as the rest: the museum opens its doors an hour before the general public, from 9 AM to 10 AM, and the morning is run with the house lights up and the soundtrack volume kept low during the film screening. Noise-canceling headsets are available for anyone who needs them.
At 10 AM, the focus shifts to the theater for a documentary screening. This Saturday's film is Galapagos. It's the second in a late-year lineup that started with Pandas on September 19, and continues with Sea Otters on November 21 and Pandas again on December 19. The whole program is sponsored in part by the National Foundation for Autism Research and Acadia Pharmaceuticals.
Accessibility Mornings is the center's sensory-friendly experience, built on the idea that science is for everyone and that visitors of all needs and abilities should be welcome and respectfully accommodated. It sits within the museum's wider 'Engage & Explore' mission to inspire San Diegans of all ages to lean into the world of science through immersive programs, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive experiences, drawing on local science organizations to support science within neighborhoods. The 2026 dates run from January 17 through December 19.
