A hands-on workshop to shoot and hand-process 16mm motion picture film using eco-safe materials, open to all experience levels.
Transborder Film Foundation is hosting a 16mm Film Hand Processing Movie Workshop at Pioneer Park on Sunday, October 11, from 10 AM to 3 PM. It's a one-day session where you shoot and process 16mm motion picture film by hand, and it's open to all experience levels, so you don't need to have ever touched a camera to sign up.
The morning starts with the basics: how to load a 16mm camera and how to operate it, along with some fundamental lighting concepts. Once you've got the footage in the can, the workshop moves into the processing side, where you'll develop the film by hand using eco-safe photochemistry rather than the harsh chemicals usually associated with old-school labs. Throughout the day, you'll be filming live portraits of yourself, so you're both the crew and the subject. When it's all done, you get an HD scan of your work to keep.
