Concert by the soul, gospel, country, blues and Americana duo The War & Treaty at the Jo Long Theatre.
The War & Treaty play the Jo Long Theatre on Saturday, June 5, 2027, at 8 PM. The duo is husband and wife Michael and Tanya Trotter, and they've been working together since 2014. Their sound pulls from roots, country, soul, gospel, blues, and Americana, and they describe their songs as being rooted in the power of love, resilience, and human connection.
They've put out a few records since they started. Lovers Game was their major-label debut, and Plus One followed, both of which showcase them as singers and songwriters. Their latest project, The Story of Michael and Tanya, continues that personal musical thread. Along the way, they've earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and another for the song "Blank Page," and they've taken home the AMA Duo/Group of the Year award twice.
The show is at the Jo Long Theatre, part of the Carver Community Cultural Center. The Carver has been open since 1929 and works to celebrate the diverse cultures of the world, the nation, and the community, with a particular focus on African and African-American heritage. Over the years, it's hosted artists like Aaron Neville, Esperanza Spalding, Gregory Porter, Poncho Sanchez, and Sheila E. If you're planning to sit in the balcony, keep in mind it's accessible only by the stairs.
