The a cappella quartet Kings Return brings its rich, seamless vocal harmonies to the Jo Long Theatre, drawing on gospel, jazz, R&B, pop and classical traditions.
Kings Return play the Jo Long Theatre on Friday, November 13, from 8 PM to 10:30 PM. They're a Dallas-based a cappella quartet—tenor Vaughn Faison, bass Gabe Kunda, tenor J.E. McKissic and baritone Jamall Williams—and the whole night is just the four of them singing.
They formed by chance in 2016 when Kunda invited friends to sing at his college graduation recital, and they finalized the lineup in 2020. They first got international attention from bare-bones stairwell performances that went viral, including an a cappella God Bless America and a classical setting of Ubi Caritas that racked up more than 10 million views. Their sound pulls from gospel, jazz, R&B, pop and classical traditions, and their cover of the Bee Gees' How Deep Is Your Love earned a GRAMMY nomination for best arrangement. The name comes from their own philosophy: "Kings who go forth to conquer but most importantly return to give back to our community."
