A zany, cause-and-effect adventure for young audiences based on the classic picture book, presented by Magik Theatre.
Magik Theatre is running If You Give A Mouse A Cookie from October 3 through October 25, 2026, at 420 S. Alamo Street in Hemisfair Park. It's the production that opened their 2026-27 season, and it's a professional show for young audiences.
The play comes from Laura Numeroff's 1985 picture book, adapted for the stage by Jodi Davidson. The story starts with a boy settled in for a quiet afternoon with a bag of cookies and a comic book in the yard, only to be interrupted by a mouse—adorable, but full of questions, energy, and hunger. What begins as a simple request snowballs into a zany, cause-and-effect adventure that turns the afternoon into a mayhem-filled joyride. It's the kind of story that works well for kids because it follows a clear, escalating logic they can get behind.
Pam Ramirez is directing, and her background informs a lot of what the show is: she's a professional clown who has worked with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus and studied at the Dell Arte School of Physical Theatre. The production leans heavily on physical comedy, and it runs about an hour, which is a good length for younger audiences. Magik Theatre has been a professional company for young audiences since 1994, and this production also coincided with a multimillion-dollar renovation that quadrupled their ADA-accessible seating and upgraded the theatre's systems.
