Jazz-funk concert by Fred Wesley and The New JB's at the Jo Long Theatre as part of the 2026-27 Carver Community Cultural Center season.
Fred Wesley & The New JB's play the Jo Long Theatre on Saturday, October 24, at 8 PM. The show is part of the Carver Community Cultural Center's 2026-27 season, so it's one of the dates they've lined up for the coming year.
If you're not familiar with the name, Fred Wesley is a trombonist and composer who spent years as a key member of James Brown's band, the J.B.'s. He was one of the architects of that tight, syncopated horn sound that defined Brown's funk era. The New JB's is the group he leads now, carrying that same tradition forward with a full horn section and a rhythm section built for dancing. It's a live act that stays rooted in the funk tradition—heavy on the groove, with the horns taking center stage.

Because it's part of the Carver's season, this is one of several performances the center is hosting over the next year, rather than a standalone tour stop. The Jo Long Theatre is their main stage, and the show starts at 8 PM on a Saturday night, so it's a late-evening date. Tickets are available through Live Nation.
