Endea Owens & The Cookout

Endea Owens & The Cookout play the Jo Long Theatre on Saturday, March 6, 2027. It's a jazz night led by Owens, a Detroit-raised bassist, composer, and bandleader who's picked up an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Peabody along the way. She's a Juilliard graduate, and she first made a name for herself as a member of Stay Human, the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Since then, she's shared the stage with jazz legends like Wynton Marsalis and Jon Batiste.

That's where The Cookout comes from. The band grew out of those experiences and takes its name from the spirit of gathering, celebration, and community. The sound is hard-swinging jazz blended with soul, gospel, funk, and blues, and Owens' original compositions and arrangements hold onto jazz traditions while bringing in fresh perspectives and vibrant new sounds. She's released albums including Feel Good Music and Caught Up In This Illusion.

The show is at the Jo Long Theatre, part of the Carver Community Cultural Center at 226 N. Hackberry in San Antonio. It starts at 8 PM, and tickets are $37.
