Master storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston brings African and African American oral traditions to life through storytelling and music, part of the Carver Youth Matinee Series.
Charlotte Blake Alston brings her storytelling to the Carver Community Cultural Center on Friday, February 12, 2027. She's a nationally renowned master storyteller who works with African and African American oral traditionsโthe kind of storytelling where people across the continent have gathered for hundreds of years to share stories that preserve and celebrate their beliefs, mythology, cultural identity, history, and community values. Her performances lean on expressive storytelling, music, and audience engagement, and they invite listeners to experience the rhythm, humor, wisdom, and enduring power of stories passed from one generation to the next.
The visit is part of the Carver's Youth Matinee Series, which has run for over fifty years showcasing a multidisciplinary mix of music, dance, theatre, and more, with artists from the local community and around the globe. It's a long-running program that brings in a wide range of performers throughout the year, and this session is appropriate for all ages, so it works as a family outing as much as a solo trip.
