Science fiction author Becky Chambers discusses her work and the concept of hopepunk, marking the release of her new novel 'As You Wake, Break the Shell'.
Becky Chambers comes to Kingsbury Hall on Thursday, October 15, at 7 PM. It's her first time visiting Salt Lake City, and the evening centers on her talk, Thrive in Daunting Times Through Hopepunk Futures, which looks at how to survive frightening, fascist times through the audacity of joy, community, and imagined futures.
Chambers is a two-time Hugo Award winner, widely considered one of the most prominent science fiction authors of our time. The talk arrives alongside the release of her new novel, As You Wake, Break the Shell, a queer, hopepunk story about surviving through found family and tenacious hope amidst environmental collapse. It's her first novel in four years, so there's a fair bit of new ground to cover.
