High school musicians perform alongside the Utah Symphony in a free, ticket-free concert as part of the symphony's education programme.
Side by Side returns to Abravanel Hall on Tuesday, May 25, 2027, at 7:30 PM. It's the Utah Symphony's education program, and the whole thing is built around a simple, pretty idea: high school musicians sit in on the orchestra and perform alongside the professional players. If you've ever wondered what it's like to see a student and a pro sharing the same stage, this is exactly that.
Leading the program is Markus Poschner, the symphony's Music Director Designate. He was announced for the role in 2024, and he's the son of a conductor and a music teacher, so the teaching side of this fits right into his family history. He's a serious record-maker, tooβhe completed an 18-album recording of Bruckner's symphonies, which picked up a Special Achievement Award from the International Classical Music Awards. He's also the first Utah Symphony Music Director in two decades to lead the Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City.

Because it's a free concert, it's a low-stakes way to get into the hall. You don't need a ticket to get in, and you don't have to worry about a price tag. It's just the symphony and a group of high schoolers playing together at Abravanel Hall on Tuesday, May 25, 2027, at 7:30 PM.
