Weekly poetry writing group at the Marmalade Branch of the Salt Lake City Public Library, with exercises and workshops for writers of all levels.
The Poetry Writing Group meets at the Salt Lake City Public Library Marmalade Branch on Tuesday, October 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. It's a session run by the library, and it's open to writers at every stage—from absolute beginners who have never put pen to paper to more experienced poets who have been at it for years. The goal they talk about is simple: helping each participant grow.
If you're coming, you're encouraged to bring a poem to workshop together, which is the part of the night where the group looks at a piece and works through it. But you don't need to have anything ready to show up. Every meeting includes poetry exercises to get everyone comfortable with the process, so if you're feeling a bit rusty or just don't have a draft you're happy with, you can still get involved and walk away with something new. It's as much about the act of writing as it is about the finished poem.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Salt Lake City and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

That's the core of it: a mix of working on your own material and doing exercises that get you writing in the moment. Whether you're there to get a second pair of eyes on a poem you've been stuck on or you just want to spend an hour and a half around people who are also writing, it's a low-pressure way to spend a Tuesday evening. The session runs from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Marmalade Branch, 280 W 500 N, Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
