Gypsy jazz and swing concert by the Hot House West Swing Orchestra with trumpeter and vocalist Bria Skonberg at Kingsbury Hall.
Hot House West Swing Orchestra plays Kingsbury Hall on Friday, April 16, 2027, at 7:30 PM. They're joined by trumpeter and vocalist Bria Skonberg, and the show is presented by UtahPresents, a program of the University of Utah.
Hot House West is a local name with deep roots here. The orchestra was started by two University of Utah School of Music alumni who built it on the idea that jazz can be world-class and welcoming at the same time, and it's grown into a beacon for jazz in the American West. They play in a Gypsy Jazz and swing style—the kind of music that's as much about the dance floor as it is about the listening.
Bria Skonberg joins them on trumpet and vocals. She's an all-star musician who the New York Times recently called the "shining hope of hot jazz," and she's performed at hundreds of festivals and stages around the world, including the New Orleans Jazz Heritage festival and Carnegie Hall. Between the orchestra and Skonberg, the night brings together a full swing section and a singer-trumpeter who's played some of the biggest jazz stages in the country.
