A concert by the Utah Symphony featuring works by Benjamin Britten and Edward Elgar, conducted by Stephanie Childress with violinist Noa Wildschut.
The Utah Symphony brings English Masterpieces: Britten & Elgar to Abravanel Hall on Friday, February 26, and Saturday, February 27, 2027. The program centers on Benjamin Britten and Edward Elgar, two of the most popular and distinctive British composers of the last two centuries, and it's conducted by the French-British Stephanie Childress.
The evening opens with Britten's Simple Symphony. If that title sounds familiar, it might be because the 'Playful Pizzicato' movement has popped up in Wes Anderson films. From there, the focus shifts to Britten's Violin Concerto, with violinist Noa Wildschut taking the lead. The concert closes with Elgar's Symphony No. 1, a work described as one of distinctly English glory, beauty, and longing.
Childress leads the whole thing, and the program is part of the Utah Symphony Masterworks Series, a six-evening cycle of timeless music. If you're arriving early, there's a pre-concert chat with the guest artists and symphony musicians in the First Tier Room, held 45 minutes before each performance.
