Jazz, gospel and neo-soul concert by bassist Endea Owens and The Cookout at Kingsbury Hall, part of the Jazz at Kingsbury Hall series.
Endea Owens & The Cookout play Kingsbury Hall on Thursday, March 4, 2027, at 7:30 PM. It's part of Jazz at Kingsbury Hall, the UtahPresents series run with JazzSLC founders Gordon and Connie Hanks, who've brought nearly 250 concerts to Utah since 1994. This show falls in the series' third year.
Owens is a Detroit-raised bassist who's built a career across some of the biggest stages in jazz and beyond. After graduating from Juilliard, she joined the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and she's picked up an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Peabody along the way. She's performed and toured with Wynton Marsalis, Jennifer Holliday, Diana Ross, Rhonda Ross, Solange, and Jon Batiste.
In 2022, she composed Ida's Crusade, an original piece about the life of Ida B. Wells, written for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and performed by the NYO Carnegie Hall Orchestra. She also curates for the National Arts Club and is a fellow of 'Jazz is Now!' at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. Her debut album, Feel Good Music, came out in September; DownBeat described her music as an uplifting mix of jazz, gospel, and neo-soul energy.
