Couples Speed Painting is coming to Urban Arts Gallery on Saturday, December 5, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's set up as a date night that puts a playful twist on the usual paint-and-sip: instead of each person working on their own canvas, you and your partner take turns answering heartfelt and lighthearted prompts while you build a shared masterpiece together. The "speed" part comes from the back-and-forth, so you're constantly switching who's holding the brush and who's talking.
If you've never been to Urban Arts Gallery, it's a good spot to spend a few extra minutes before or after the session. The gallery shows more than 150 local Utah artists working across a wide variety of styles, genres, and media, so there's plenty to look at while you're there. It's a local space that keeps a rotating mix of work from artists right here in the state, and the scale of it—over 150 names—means you'll see a lot of different approaches in one room.
The painting itself is the main event, and the prompts are what drive it. You'll be alternating between painting and answering questions, so the conversation is as much a part of the night as the art you end up with. Tickets are $35 per couple, which covers all the supplies you'll need for the night, and they're available online or at the door. The session runs from 6 PM to 9 PM on Saturday, December 5, at Urban Arts Gallery in Salt Lake City.
