A speculative, immersive world-building study by ariana Farquharson that invites visitors to explore (geo)locating self and home inside a rapidly changing post-pandemic world.
ariana Farquharson opens You Are Here at the African American Cultural Center Art Gallery on October 28, and it stays through February 26. The show is presented by the Gregg Museum of Art & Design, and it's free to see.
Farquharson describes You Are Here as a speculative, immersive world-building study. It asks you to think about (geo)locating yourself and your sense of home inside a post-pandemic 'new' world that's changing rapidly and frequently. If you've spent the last few years feeling like the ground keeps shifting under your feet, that's exactly the kind of thing this exhibition is working through.
If you want to hear how it came together, there's an artist talk on November 11. Farquharson will go behind the scenes to talk about the personal narratives and techniques that shaped the work, so you can get a sense of the process that went into the final show.
