Exhibition of new paintings by Gayle Stott Lowry, inspired by her travels through Southern Italy.
Gayle Stott Lowry is showing a new body of paintings at Gallery C in Raleigh, running from February 12 through March 21. The exhibition is titled Where Sunlight Lingers, and it brings together work she painted while traveling through Southern Italy.
Lowry’s time in Southern Italy is the through-line here. The paintings aren't just snapshots of the places she visited; they're her response to the light and the landscapes of that region. If you've spent any time in Southern Italy, you know the kind of light she's talking about—the way it hits the coast and the hills, and the way it changes the colors of everything it touches. That's what she's chasing in these new pieces.
Because the show runs for over a month, you've got plenty of time to swing by. It opens on February 12 and stays up through March 21, so you can catch it on a weekday or a weekend, depending on what works for you. If you're looking for a specific day to go, there's a reception on Sunday, February 15, from 1 to 3 PM—a good time to see the work and maybe run into the artist herself.
