Exhibition of transparent watercolors by Suzanne Hetzel at Gallery C, showcasing her signature approach of finding drama and delight in everyday subjects.
Suzanne Hetzel is showing her transparent watercolors at Gallery C in Raleigh through September 30. It's a solo exhibition, so the whole room is her work.
Hetzel has been at this for more than four decades, and she describes her approach as finding drama and delight in the overlooked beauty of the everyday world. She works primarily from life and imagination on 100% rag paper with archival pigments, layering her compositions to build luminosity. It's the kind of work that asks you to slow down and look at things you'd usually walk right past.
That practice has earned her recognition from the National Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor West, and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society. Her work has appeared three times in the annual publication Splash, and her paintings are held in private and public collections across the United States and Great Britain.
