Folk metal act The Dread Crew of Oddwood performs with special guests Broadslab at Chapel of Bones in West Raleigh.
The Dread Crew of Oddwood play Chapel of Bones on Monday, October 12, with North Carolina's Broadslab opening the night. The Crew formed in Southern California back in 2008 and have grown into one of the biggest independent folk metal acts around. They play acoustic instruments in a style they call "Heavy Mahogany," which blends heavy metal, Celtic folk, pirate themes, and thunderous percussion. Their live show is built for the crowd, with singalongs, mosh pits, drinking anthems, and tales of high-seas adventure.
They've released five albums independently, selling over 6,000 units. Over the years, they've toured alongside pirate metal acts like Alestorm, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Heidevolk, and Trollfest, and they're out with Heidevolk again in 2026. Their most recent record, Rust & Glory, came out in 2023, following 2019's Lawful Evil.
Broadslab takes the early slot. They're a North Carolina band that mixes Southern stoner metal, swampy blues, and doom-heavy grooves, so the night starts with a local act before the Crew takes over. Between the two, you'll get a fair bit of ground covered: the heavy, slow-burn side of stoner and doom from Broadslab, and the acoustic, pirate-themed folk metal of The Dread Crew of Oddwood.
