Stand-up comedy special event with Sammy Obeid, known for his world record of performing comedy 1,001 nights in a row.
Sammy Obeid is playing Goodnights Comedy Club on Wednesday, December 16, at 6:30 PM. It's billed as a special event at the Midtown room, which has been a Raleigh staple for years.
If you haven't come across Obeid before, his background is a bit of a trip. He's a Lebanese-Palestinian American comedian born in Oakland, California, who double-majored in business and mathematics at UC Berkeley. He actually turned down a job at Google to pursue comedy full-time, so he's not exactly coming at this from the usual angle.
Since then, he's put in the work. He hosts Netflix's 100 Humans and has appeared on NBC's Last Comic Standing and America's Got Talent, as well as on TBS's Conan. But the thing he's best known for is a world record: he performed comedy 1,001 nights in a row, a run that earned him coverage in Time and The New York Times. That's a lot of stages and a lot of audiences in a very short window, and it's the kind of thing that sticks with you when you're talking about his career.
