A live performance by the Talking Heads tribute band Start Making Sense at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh.
Start Making Sense plays the Lincoln Theatre on Friday, December 4, at 7:30 PM. They're a Talking Heads tribute band, and their whole show is built around the music of those New York art-punk pioneers. If you know the band, you know the sound—jagged rhythms, clean guitars, and that particular blend of danceable grooves and nervous energy that defined Talking Heads.
They've spent a few years building a following at venues across the country, and they've played with a couple of different lineups along the way. In Chicago, they did a three-night run at Martyrs' split into two sets: a four-piece covering the band's first three albums, and a full seven-piece for the hits. They've also played The Stone Pony in Asbury Park and Musikfest Cafe in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Raleigh date is part of the Big Something Series at the Lincoln Theatre, which the venue describes as downtown Raleigh's premier live music, concerts and events venue.
